Overview: Upton Highlands offers spectacular views of Mt. Shasta and the surrounding area. The property is located at the edge of the town of Mount Shasta in Siskiyou County and features the finest mountain living home-building locations in the area. The project was begun in the Spring of 2001. The complete approvals process with a full Environmental Impact Report took over five years. Projects here are subject to significant scrutiny, review, change and re-do. From the beginning studies, through additional studies and reports, and finally, through construction to the final approval in January 2008 took seven years. Upton Highlands was conceived, designed and built to be an aesthetic, upscale subdivision. It is situated at the immediate base of Mt. Shasta. The northern boundary is National Forest. Most of the lots look directly at a 10,000 foot elevation increase from the property level to the top of Mt. Shasta. Words and photos do not describe the absolute magnificence of the views.

Directions: Interstate 5 approximately 240 miles north of Sacramento to Mount Shasta City. Take the Lake Street Exit and continue up the hill past Mount Shasta Blvd. The road curves left past the baseball park, then straight. Go through the stop sign. Pass the High School, pass Ski Village Drive, go 1/8 mile, then turn right into the subdivision. Look for the sign and lot map on the right.

Location: 41° 19' 40.08" N 122° 18' 22.13" W (Approximate latitude and longitude at the entrance to Upton Highlands on Everitt Memorial Highway.) Google Map.

Subdivision Details: 38 gently-sloping and easily-buildable lots, ranging from 2.5 to 3.8 acres. Upton Highlands is designed as an exclusive, upscale, gated community. The development features Superior View Lots - some with trees, most with spectacular views of Mount Shasta to the north, Black Butte to the northwest, and Mt. Eddy to the west and southwest. In addition to the incomparable views, the subdivision features paved roads, extensively landscaped and gated entrances, and two fire suppression wells with underground water storage tanks. Underground utilities to each lot include electricity, telephone, and cable television.

History: In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Upton was the name of a small town with a mill and railroad intersection a few miles north of Sisson, which is now the town of Mount Shasta. The railroad from McCloud to Upton crossed the property that is now Upton Highlands.
